Metro 2033 - God mode not working

I got Metro during THQ free giveaway awhile back, but I quickly found myself disappointed with the game. It's a great experience, not so much a great game (Good Escapist review that pretty much sums up how I feel: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.297851-Intermittent-Immersion-A-review-of-Metro-2033). So after being continually frustrated and deciding I would find more enjoyment in just experiencing the atmosphere instead, I tried turning on God mode. However, I can't get it to work, no matter what. I've edited the user.cfg multiple times, restarted Steam, so on and so forth. It just won't work, I can't really give any further details on my issue as I don't really know what the issue is, but I would really appreciate some suggestions to try to get somewhere.

Well, I guess no one has an answer. However, if someone does have an answer I won't see if for awhile as I will be gone for almost a week. I apologize in advance for not being able to select an answer, or communicate my problems directly.

Why do you need the god mode ? it defeats the purpose of the game, if you want to experience the atmosphere, don't do it with cheats, specially on that game.
I don't remember the game being hard, it was a long time when i finished the game, but it's not that difficult.

Sorry for the hugely late reply, I had family stuff to deal with and forgot about this thread. As I explained, and linked to, it's a good experience and story, not a good game. At least in my opinion. I find the actual game-play to be dull and very frustrating.
