Metro 2033 Redux not recognizing any input (Except mouse movement)

So I'm maybe halfway through the game(complete guess) having enjoyed it with little technical problems and now, suddenly, inputs are no longer recognized!

When I start the game, everything works normally, I choose "continue" with my mouse and the left click is detected. It goes to the loading screen and loads as quickly as it usually does and asks me to "press any button" or something along those lines. It detects that button press fine. (Having tried left-click, 'A' and Space)

Then it goes in to the game. This is where things get weird.
The game stops recognizing any inputs except for mouse movement. Left click doesn't shoot, WASD doesn't move, ESC won't pause the game. NOTHING.

I do have an xbox controller always plugged in, so my first though was, maybe that was screwing things up as it has for some games.(Though I don't see how that could be the case as it had worked just fine before) So I unplugged it and tried again. No difference.

HELP!?

Solution

Glad you got it working now! This solution will definitely come in handy for the...

Do you remember what you did or changed before you started encountering this issue? Also, try unplugging the controller and restart the game (or even PC) and try again (don't plug the controller back in). Maybe something funny happened with the game's detection system with more than 1 input device plugged in at the same time.

Like I said, I did try removing the controller, but I didn't try rebooting without it. I should try that next...
I guess there might be something funny going on that makes the game think it's still plugged in or something. I doubt it though, since moving the mouse still works and you would think if that were the case ESC would still work... not to mention it worked fine previously, with the controller always connected.

Also, I now realize I never actually tried using the damn controller... That would have at least determined if it was the controller messing it up.

I did uninstall bitdefender free AV, because it was affecting my access to regedit... I don't know if registry values can affect that. Even if they can I don't know how that could be the case as the game recognizes inputs in the menu and in the loading screen but not in-game.

Try a hard reset on config files? Check your keybindings?
YES!
I got it working. Turns out that uninstalling it even with RevoUninstaller apparently didn't delete the config file. I noticed that my FOV was bigger than the default even after re-installing. That's how I knew it was still using the old config file (I had edited it to use a bigger FOV)

So I deleted it and everything worked fine!
After that I re-edited the config file to what I had previously and its still works.
I don't know what the hell went wrong with the old config file (especially since between it working and not, I hadn't made any changes to it), but it's all fine now!

:)

Glad you got it working now! This solution will definitely come in handy for the similar problems one might encounter.

Solution

Yeah, I just didn't immediately think to reset the config files, since like I said, I hadn't made any changes to them prior to the problem...

Since I can't pick my own comment as a solution and you were the only one to help me you shall be the solution :)
