Metronet 1Gbps down 250Mbps up is only ~90Mbps down and 250Mbps up everywhere else?

I just upgraded from Comcast extreme 150 to Metronet gigabit all fiber internet but there is a catch, Metronet has carrier NAT, so you have to pay for a static IP ($10 a month more) if you want to access your LAN from the internet (Port forwarding does not work on Basic Metronet service). My issue is that when I use Speedtest.net (ookla) using Metronet as the remote server I get 955Mbps down and 250Mbps up (awesome) but when I try any other remote server, Comcast, Blast, AT&T, Spedtest.net, Sprint, Giganet any other server from anywhere in the USA, California to New York, I get the same thing ~90Mbps down and 250MBps up.

Steam games download slower on Metronet than they did on Comcast. So I called Metronet, ordered the static IP and asked their tech support what gives, they said that its the remote servers that are tied to 100Mbps, really? Then why 250Mbps up then, they had no answer. They said to try fast.com, that would be a real test. OK so I ran a test on fast.com and the readings are ~300Mbps down (no up speed listed). OK that is faster than ookla tests but still not ~950Mbps I should be getting.

Bottom line I was getting about ~20MBps download everywhere on Comcast and only ~10MBps on Metronet but with ~30MBps uploads, so what gives? I am using the Metronet ADTRAN modem and Neatgear R7000 Nighthawk router (WiFi off), my PC shows 1.0 Gbps ethernet connection and everything on my LAN is gigabit running Cat5e cable all less than 50ft. All my LAN Netgear gigabit switches are GS108 and only going through one of those until the PC.

Total system end devices are about 10-15 devices only using 1 or 2 at a time max. Should I complain about the speed again or does this seem normal? I have checked this with only one PC connected directly to the modem, same results. I may go back to Comcast though the price is the same at least I do not have to pay $10 more for a static IP as Comcast does not use carrier NAT and the overall download speed appears to be better on Comcast.

Also ping on Comcast is ~1-30ms everywhere, metonet it is ~13-100mS everywhere and 0mS on Metronet servers. Is this a scam or what? Thanks for any help I hope someone can shed some light on this because I can not figure this one out on my own. I have a feeling that the problem is on the connection from Metronet to the internet, Metronet and Netflix appear to be well connected but everything else on the internet is like running through a 100Mbps download only modem. Hard to say what they are up to. I would doubt they really only have 100m connection to other ISP. Still that would be the same as if you ran fiber to all your neighbors houses on a gigbit switch and the connected to comcast via the cable modem. The users would get 1g to your servers but could not exceed your cable modem speed to the internet and the more users that tried the slower it would get for everyone.

I spoke to MetroNet tech support and they said that was odd. It is odd but they did not offer a solution yet. I still have not recieved my static IP as well. I will give them one more week and then I think I will cancle MetroNet. Good thing I never canceled Comcast or I would have to pay a reconnection fee. I wonder what pains I will have to go through to cancel MetroNet now. Too bad too they killed all the grass in a line to my house for a promis they could not deliver on a technical difficulty on their end. I may just pay Comcast more for faster service than MetroNet and no carrier NAT! Shame no one has a solution. Its not my end because I get 127Mbps down on comcast instantly and MetroNet struggels from 60Mbps to barely 90Mbps by the end of the test.

I got my fixed IP setup today and still ~90Mbps down and 250Mbps up on the internet and 980Mbps down and 250Mbps up on MetroNet WAN (Not internet). I have a ticket in, I just don't get it, my upload to the internet is wicked fast but download is slower than comcast. *sigh* at least I can call the Comcast retention center and get a great deal now or cancel Comcast and save ~$150 a month but loose IP phone and TV (Who needs TV anymore anyway?).

Yea, I think the download is governed like Comcast governs upload speed. Anyhoo. I think I am going to talk to Comcast about a Blast 500 package if they give me a good price, might keep phone and TV too if they hook me up but if not sayonara Comcast.

Originally purchasing the static IP fixed this for me and then it randomly went back to being capped at 100Mbit so I downgraded to the slowest package. Recently when the 250Mbps upload came into play I re-upgraded and I'm still suffering the same issue. Let me know if you find a solution!

At first I thought I was reading something I had written and forgot about. I have the exact same situation where I got the 1gig/250 package but unless I'm testing to their server I get 99/230ish. And I've had a static open from day one since I was told VPN wouldn't work otherwise and since I work from home 100% that would have been problematic.

One time I did see some games download on the Xbox one at near the gig mark but that was once or twice.

Parents have the 500 package and same scenario there too.

I had sent an email to them wanting to talk to one of their engineers to discuss their peering arrangements and some other things and was told to call in. It's a lot easier in my book for them to research it and get back with me when it's all laid out in an email.

Just know you're not alone. I'll try to remember to update you if I get anywhere with them.
