Question MF120 Halo Fans RGB problems. any help?

I recently purchased a pack of 4 Cooler Master MF120 halo fans and 1 seperate one. The pack of 3 came with a controller. I hooked everything up and the fans all run fine and light up. But the controller is not detected by any software (icue, armory crate, aurasync, etc.) I downloaded the Master+ software and it says controller is version 0013 and needs 0015. So I am guessing that is the error. But when i try to update it gets stuck with the info below

Current Version: Not Read
Status: Not Connected
Result: Connecting AP

Unplug everything from the hub except the power and usb 2.0 line to the motherboard and try to update it again.

managed to get the hub updated by connecting it to a laptop usb while connected through sata on my pc for power. However I cannot seem to get the h120 halo fans to get detected correctly. The Master + software detects the controller but does not detect the fans. Any ideas?
