I read through a handful of similar threads and tried the advice to no success. My rig has a MSI 970 motherboard and I am trying to use my desktop microphone with the on-board sound, I installed the RealTek driver and my device manager is detecting the microphone in the dedicated Microphone input directly attached the the motherboard as well as the microphone jack on the front of the case. I have manually gone into the sound settings and turned up the microphone level to 100% and microphone boost to 30 dB and have still had no luck.

The sound window in the recording tab registers some input when I tap my keyboard or push the mute button on the mic.

Please let me know if there is any more info I can give to help troubleshoot.

Right click your volume icon
Click recording devices
Locate your mic in there, right click it and set it as default

If its not there, right click anywhere in the recording window and show disconnected and/or disabled devices
