Mic/Headphone splitter not working

I have a turtle beach XO ONE headset which has a combo mic and headphones but only one 3.5MM plug, My motherboard doesnt have a mic headphone combo slot so I bought a mic headphone splitter yet when I use the splitter neither the mic or headphones work

You may have bought the wrong type of adapter cable. For converting combo-headset jack to two separate headphone/mic jacks, you need this:

You need a TRRS to TRS adapter, not a "splitter"
