First off on an unrelated note, am I just blind, or is there really not an 'Audio' section under the 'Hardware' and 'Software' threads?!?!? I would think there are enough audio related questions to where a thread would need to be made for it. But I digress.

I got a couple of audio toys for Christmas and am having trouble setting them up together properly. I got a FiiO E10K DAC and a Sennheiser Game One headset for listening to music as well as gaming. If you look at the picture of the DAC, you can see that there is only an input for headphones. I didn't think this would work but I picked up an adapter for headphones and mic to aux cable hoping that it would pass the mic input through the outputting connection in the DAC. Of course it didn't work so I went out and got an aux extension cable to connect the mic to the back of my computer (just on board mic input).

Here's the problem I'm facing, the computer (and Realtek) is recognizing that there is a mic being inputted and I would select it as the default, however it will not pick up any speech what-so-ever.

So is there something I'm missing or is it not even possible to have the headphone part of the headset set up through the DAC and the mic part of the headset set up through the on-board audio?

TL;DR
I'm an audio newb >.<

After messing with the cables and realtek driver for a while it started working on it's own. I noticed that it worked (at first) only when I plugged the mic into the front of the computer tower so I thought that maybe the motherboard audio was starting to fail but after uninstalling and reinstalling the Realtek driver and plugging it into the back of the computer again it worked just fine. I still have no idea what was wrong but the issue is fixed.
