Mic mutes itself when adjusting volume

Hello! I just built my new PC and have noticed a problem. Every time I adjust my volume using the volume up and volume down buttons on my keyboard, my mic mutes itself. I have tried reinstalling windows 10, using two different mics (blue snowball ice and generic headset), updated my sound drivers, checked my PC for malware, and looked for drivers for my keyboard, which I could not find (it is the microsoft comfort curve 3000). any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
