Mic not working through USB sound card

Hi,

I've been having a weird problem. My main issue is I'm not sure when this started being a problem as I don't use my mic regularly.

I have a Trust 5.1 USB external sound card that I use for all my audio needs (it's easier than having to go under my desk to swap inputs/outputs etc.).

I noticed today that my mic was not working at all when trying to record audio.

After some playing around I found that if I open "USB 5.1 SOUND EXPERT" ( I believe this is the software that the manufacturer supplies as drivers) I can listen to the mic through that, but I cannot get any windows devices to hear it. The same device under the "recording devices" shows up but never registers any input and will not play any sound when "listen to this device" is selected.

I'm running Windows 7 x64 and this exact set up has worked for years for discord/skype/steam games etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Ok, strangely unplugging and re-plugging the USB sound card worked. No idea why or how, especially as I've restarted several times with no changes.

I'll leave this post up in case it helps someone else in the future.

It depends on what you are using to record. Sometimes you need to go to preferences in the program you are using to record and change the interface to the one you use. I record through a POD GX for guitar and if I use acid pro to record I need to change the preferences to the pod gx interface so that it knows where the sound is coming from.

If you're using Windows have a click around in control panel sometimes the audio settings are configured for your motherboard input, again you would need to change the setting to your audio interface.

Hope that helps
