Hi Iupgraded my HP Omen to windows 10 today. Everything is running smoothly except that my mic reception is very very bad for some reason. All settings are maxed out for loudness but I can only get a faint sound when I flick the mic or talk VERY loud. Ive tried multiple headsets with the same result. The headset port is of the single combo variety. Any ideas?

So after some testing it seems like skype is the culprit. The driver works and my mic does work on any other program (cortant, ventrillo, voice recorder, etc) even listening to the device I can hear myself loud and clear with no boost on the mic. This looks like a serius problem with skype, realtek drivers, and windows 10. Although strange enough my desktop works fine as does all my friends. Im really confused at this point. If anyone has a solution or knows anything more than I do please let me know!

I had something similar happen in the past but it wasn't specifically Windows 10. The way I ended up resolving it was I totally UNINSTALLED the driver for sound card (chip built into motherboard) and then restarted the machine. I let windows figure out what I needed all by itself. I then downloaded the driver for the sound card off the card's website and installed that so I would have the tiny program for playing with sound settings. :) I then did another restart and once that was done it worked for me.

Ive tried uninstalling the driver and rebooting. Windows found the same driver with the same effect. Ive tried installing the driver from the hp site but still resulting in a low mic volume. An other ideas?

Only other thing I can think of is to open up the sound options again and then click the recording tab at the top and talk into the MIC to see if it shows anything coming through. I know when I say stuff through that in a normal voice it only shows a couple green ticks but when I blow hard it goes up about halfway. If yours is similar there then hit the properties button and goto levels tab. Mine is currently at 90 for volume and 0.0 for boost. Maybe add a small boost to yours and see if that helps.
