my mobo is gigabyte h61ms with 2 ram slots. its written in the cover its micro atx. Even in the gigabyte official website its written micro atx with mentioning the size of mini itx. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4873#sp but when i opened the box the mobo is of 17-19 cm size which is the size of mini itx. as micro atx size is 24 cm(244mm). i know i didn't get the wrong product as my mobo is exactly what they mentioned in their official website. but i am confuse why they say its micro atx when the mobo itself is the size of mini itx.

The motherboard is not exactly to either ITX or M-ATX spec.
ITX will have only one expansion slot intended for a graphics card.
Your motherboard has an additional slot.
The mounting hole layout meets ITX spec, but the end of the motherboard where the graphics slot goes is extended a bit.
If you look at the ITX spec, you see the mounting holes at the extremes of the motherboard.
On your motherboard, the graphics slot side is extended a bit, making it possibly not able to fit a true ITX limited case.
For this, the M-ATX designation is probably more correct.
