I just recently found out that the micro SD card I have for my Samsung Galaxy s4 has something called write protection.

I cannot make any new folders or put files on my SD card. How do I disable write protection using only my phone?

Solution
A micro-SD card reader for your PC if you don't already have one. Put the card in, right-click on it from Explorer, choose "Format", follow the prompts and that will hopefully do it.

So far I have tried to reformat it using my phone. I've tried to reformat using a factory data reset for my phone which basically reset my phone to factory settings which included the SD card, I've also tried to format the SD card using the settings in my phone.

My SD card has resisted all my attempts to reformat it. The data is still there and I'm not sure why.

If you write lots of files and data to the SD card on a regular basis, one possibility is that a memory page containing critical file system structures or internal operating data has become weak and the SD card has gone permanently read-only because of it.

You have tried every option your phone could provide, one last thing that might be worth trying is formatting from a PC/Mac.

It seems that the answers that I've come across are either, Buy a Micro SD card adapter and use the "switch" on the adapter with the SD card inserted, or purchase an SD card reader and format the SD card and hope that it gets rid of the write protection.

I've actually gone a different route, I decided to RMA my Micro SD card, As its from G.Skill it comes with a lifetime warranty.
