Micro SD getting the best of me

I have a multi-card reader on my PC. I have now bought two Micro SD cards for my phone. Every time I try to put anything onto an SD card via the reader, I'm told to remove write protection.

Yes, I know all about the lock on the adapter. I have used 4 different adapters now with the lock in every possible position, and I even tried the tape trick on the side. Nothing works in getting rid of the write protection. I have even tried to format both my brand new cards but in Computer Management, it doesn't let you click format on those drives.

Could this just all be the fault of my card reader? The Micro SD cards are PNY 4gb, SanDisc Ultra 32gb, and Samsung EVO 64gb. The card reader is Rosewill.

I got a new card reader and everything works.

Even though all the other ports work on my current card reader, only the one I needed the most didn't work. In fact, the new card reader I got is external, and I'm running it through a USB on my current internal card reader device. Go figure.
