For a while now I've noticed that my rig will encounter microfreezes or stutters after about an hour or two of playing anything.

It's other the greatest setup but apart rom these stutters it actually does really well, runs stuff like Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2 maxed out at 60fps.

At first I was told it could be temperature so I installed custom fan profiles which seemed to make it worse. Afterburner also made it worse, however showed me that my GPU would hit a certain speed and then fall to 0.

How do I fix this? Thanks!

The rig is:
CPU: i5 2500 3.3GHz
GPU: GTX 780
8gb RAM

Solution
If your PC is stuttering, it could also be because your are running out of physical memory (RAM).
You can use MSI afterburner & Rivatuner Statistics Server or HWinfo to display the memory usage on-screen during gameplay.
In this way, you can also keep an eye on your temperatures. You GTX 780 should be on, or below 80 degrees C during gaming.
The CPU should be in the similar temperature range.
If you are experiencing high temps, clean the fans and heat sinks with compressed air.
