Okay so I bought the AKG D5 and some £2.99 XLR to 3.5mm Mini jack and I plugged it into my COMBO JACK Because I have a laptop
I did it with a jack splitter, but still, no success.
So it's detected as stereo mix and playing sound through it, whilst also saying that my mic is "not plugged in"
I have read similar articles but They have all been useless
please help me!
it's also worth noting my laptop is windows 8.1
and I tried it with my older, windows 7 laptop, which already had a mic jack, and that worked fine

The link you sent me was exactly the one I bought?
Also, I bought the splitter waaay before the mic for a headset that I bought that is now broken

lol sorry I meant headset adapter
so if I buy another headset adapter you think the mic will work?
because my other mic (Trust Starzz, Yeah I know it's terrible) worked when I plugged it into the headset adapter

Well there is a chance the wiring in your headset is defective instead, Since you tested another headset and it works I'd be inclined to believe your headset has gone bad. Can you test them on your smartphone? Most of those have a combined jack also

I'm gonna buy a new headset adapter because the mic worked on my other computer, which wasn't a combo jack
thanks for the help
