I currently have a ASUS VG248QE and I am wondering if the audio line-in jack can serve as a microphone input to my PC if I am using HDMI or Displayport cable. I cannot try for now since I had not purchased those cables.
If anyone has experiences on this, please tell me if it will work.
Thank you!

That "Audio-In" jack on your monitor is to connect audio source (usually, PC' line out) so that you can use monitor' speakers for audio. Unless your monitor has built-in microphone, and dedicated "Microphone Out" jack, you will need external microphone for your Skype / teamspeak sessions.

HDMI, DisplayPort can carry PC audio to the monitor, but not the other way around.
