I have a headset and I am able to pick up output sound clearly, but when i set up my microphone my friend in skype hears music i played from youtube while i cant record my voice in any way? Is there any way to this?

I am using Windows XP with Realtek HD Audio

Solution

Right click it -> Sound Manager -> Microphone -> try messing with the settings like noise cancellation etc..
Also if there is a stereo mix tab make sure it is muted.

Yes. You shouldn't be hearing yourself, only the other people. As long as they can hear you your fine :)

I terms of game recording?
Using FRAPS you tick both record Windows XX sounds and Record external input and select the right input.

The reason is a hardware design flaw the power for the headset is usb and the computer is confused where to send the audio. Buy a 6 foot usb extension cord and use a usb wall charger for power. That will fix the problem.

We are talking about a 3.5mm microphone. And even if we were talking about a USB headset your suggestion makes no logical sense since the power and data lines are separate, Computers can't get "confused" - They either do or don't - and using a wall charger on a USB headset would result in no data lines being connected to the PC.

Also please don't dig up old threads (this one is 10 months old!)
