I've had this PC for 2 years now, and I did an upgrade on it about a week ago. I changed around a GPU and the case. I was also running a new hard drive. I soon updated to Windows 8.1. I had trouble with sound cutting out randomly, but eventually fixed it by buying a USB sound adapter. I started using that yesterday, but my friends couldn't hear my voice in skype, so I concluded that my microphone was broken. I started using my webcam as a mic. It worked for one long skype session, but as soon as the session ended, and I rejoined a new skype call, nobody could hear me. I logged on today, and the microphone volumes are both extremely quiet. I'm not sure what to do. My adapter.

I don't intend to use it as a permanent solution, but I really need to fix my microphone issues before I figure out a permanent solution.

No offense but those adapters are possibly lowest quality and my suggestion is to keep using the onboard ports.

Something's wrong with the onboard ports, and the adapter is working fine with no problems so far.
