Microphone jack not working

Hello,

I cannot get my microphone to work. I have a pair of headphones with a 3.5mm jack. If I plug them into the audio jack, I get audio. But the microphone jack is separate, so I bought a splitter that takes my headphones and splits it into a separate mic and audio jack.

It appears to recognize the microphone, but I can't record any sound. I've tried both the jacks on front of the case and the ones directly from the motherboard on the back of my computer, using the headphones alone and the splitter. So, it appears that the splitter is working, and I know my headphones work. I've reinstalled the drivers. In all cases, I can hear audio but the mic doesn't work.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

I've tried it with a pair of Beats headphones and a pair of Bose earbuds. Both have mics and both are working.

I raised the microphone volume to full and made sure it was not muted. Still nothing.

There are 4 possibilities.
1. you plugged the leads in from the adapter in backward.
2. The adapter is bad.
3. The microphone on that headset is broken.
4. There is a mute button for the microphone some place on the headset, and it is set to mute.

Pick one.

Beats B0518. I can't find a model for the Bose.
