Microphone not picking up sound

For about the last week or so, my microphone hasn't been picking up sound. I have a built in mic with my headphones. My headphones receive audio fine, so I know they aren't the issue. I have tried uninstalling both the mic and audio manager (I have Realtek HD Audio Manager), as well as checked to make sure it wasn't muted in hopes of correcting the issue, but neither have worked. Additionally, my speakers haven't been playing sound when I unplug my headphones, which is also a new issue. As far as I know, everything is physically connected correctly, so I'm positive that isn't the issue. I use Windows 7 Professional and haven't changed anything recently that i believe would result in messing with my sound. I'm not very computer savvy, but I will provide whatever information I can, and I am grateful for any help you guys can give me. Thanks.

Check if there is some dust or for some reason your microphone cable isent connected properly.

Also make sure that you havent accidentally pressed some kind of mute microphone button on the headset.

No mute button on the mic itself and the cable is connected properly. Headphone audio works perfectly find so i'm positive they aren't the issue. I've also tried other headsets and they don't work either.

When you say you have tried other headsets that doesent work, does the audio work in those headsets? or is it just the microphone there too?

I have an identical pair of headphones and I have the same issue. Audio is perfect, but the mic doesn't work.

Well if both headsets have the same problem my guess would be the onboard sound adapter. What motherboard do you have, or do you have a soundcard?

Any idea where I would be able to see that information? Sorry, i'm pretty stupid when it comes to computers...

Ok so you dont have a sound card. If you did you would know.

For the motherboard, go to the start menu and search for System Information. Now open it and it could say : Baseboard Manufacturer, Baseboard Model and BaseBoard Name.

Is what you are looking for?

It should say BaseBoard lower down on the page.

That's the entire page. Would it be located in another section?

Appareanetly your computer doesent specify, but, why dont you go a head and go to Task Manager and troubleshoot the Audio device, just to see if anything happens.

I've messed around with it in task manager and nothing seems to have changed.

Yeah no worries. Hopefully I can figure something out eventually, but thank you so much for taking time to try and help me. I really appreciate it.
