Microphone Not Working On Windows 7

I'm trying to get my headset mic to work on windows 7. It shows up in recording devices, and when I click the button on the mic, sound gets recorded. I have ensured that it is: plugged into the mic port, my drivers are installed (MSI 970 motherboard - realtek HD audio driver), and my mic is not muted physically. I've tried uninstalling drivers, downloading the different versions of realtek audio thing, and fiddling with windows sound settings. When I test the mic on ubuntu 17.10, it works with no problem through pulse audio. What can I do to troubleshoot?

Do you have the Realtek HD Audio Manager icon in your taskbar system tray? If yes, what are the settings in the Microphone tab.

Yes, the icon appears. I can see mic in port is plugged in. Sorry, I'm not at my PC, I can't tell the settings, but I have messed with them and haven't been able to fix.
