Hello, so I have an Asus X554L running windows 10 and have been recently been trying to get my mic to work. The mic in question is an Antlion modmic 4.0, which has been confirmed to work. I have purchased an adapter for the annoying combo jack and It works well. My headphones and audio out have no issues. I have updated/re-installed my drivers an ungodly amount of times, and maxed every setting I could find. Still nothing unless I put the mic against my mouth and (literally, I am not even joking about this) scream at it. Even then It is still kind of quiet. I know all about going to sound, recording devices and changing things there. still nothing.

The two times this mic has worked properly were right after first use, and after a windows update. But as soon as I shut my laptop/shut It down, the mic would not work the next time I tried to use it. Please help. I am out of options and pissed off at the wasted money.

Solution
Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- First is to make sure that the Antlion modmic 4.0 is connected properly in your laptop.
- Next is to run Windows Update and install all updates available.
- Once done, uninstall/reinstall the Sound card driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the sound driver.
- Next is to download and install the driver from ASUS Support site.
- Here's the link: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/DriversForWin8/Audio/Audio_Realtek_Win7_64_VER6016937.zip (it's for Windows 7 but do install it).
- Reboot your laptop once the driver has been installed.
- After the reboot make sure that the mic is set as the default recording device.

- Right click on the speaker icon and select Recording Devices.
- If you see your Microphone listed, click on it and select Set Default.
- Do also make sure that the mic level is set all the way to 100%.
- Right click on your mic and select Properties then go to Levels tab and adjust it to 100%.
- Click Apply and OK then try your mic again if it will work or not.

Solution
After this, the microphone does work, as usual following a windows update. However like I mentioned before: the problem only occurs after I am done using it and close down my laptop for the night. Thank you for your help, and if it is still there in a few days I will update this reply.
