Hello, I have been searching on google for a solid hour and I still just cannot find any solutions.
So few day ago I got new notebook and unfortunately it has only one audio jack - black. Lately i was switching headphones with speakers a couple of times per day and each time it asked me if i plugged headphones or speakers. So I just set 'headphones' as a default.
Yesterday I wanted to plug microphone, but it registered it as headphones so all sound goes to my microphone and it cannot record anything.
I even tried to restore windows to an earlier point, however it still doesn't work. Do I have to reinstall windows completely?
If you have any idea, please let me know.

Solution
The first order of work for you is to pass on the make and model of your laptop. The second order of work, would be, to state your OS and your headset+any other audio equipment you have at your disposal. Thirdly, can you clarify the number of bands on your headset that you're using on your laptop?

If you're working on Windows 10, you'd need to disable automatic device driver updates and try uninstalling then reinstalling your audio drivers but it's not advised to do so since the previous points will help you with your issue sooner than later+we can identify the culprit.
