Microphone not working

My microphone isn't working and I've tried every solution i know of including re-installing drivers and checking all the mic settings and levels. It's a brand new mic which worked on it's first go, but when I turned my pc on the next day it wasn't working anymore

What microphone are you using, is it part of a pair of headphone such as a gaming headset? If not check that is it plugged into a mic port and that in you audio settings that the line in/mic in is selected to the port you plugged into. You could alternative to into Devices and Printers and check to see if the microphone is recognised.

If so go into Control Panel/ Hardware and Sound/ Sound/ Recording and check to see if you are the mic is inputing a signal.
