Microphone stopped working all of a sudden

Hi, just out of no where my microphone has stopped working and ive reinstalled drivers and checked all the settings. even reset my pc and completely wiped the hard drive. my mic still isnt working and i tried multiple headphones. i have no idea what is wrong. is there a hidden setting somewhere that i missed?

Have you tried to connect those headphones to another PC or phone to check if their mics are working? If the headphones are fine then there might be some problem in your motherboard. Does your microphone has two seperate 3.5mm pins(one for speakers, one for microphone?) or is it a USB headphone?
I'm gonna assume you have single 3.5mm headphone. Are you plugging the headphones in the back or to the front? If back then try plugging it in front and see if it works. If still not, Open up your case look for Front Audio Panel Port(looks like this http://smg.photobucket.com/user/nuklep2/media/untitled.jpg.html ) Remove it and plug it back in as it was. Start your PC and check if it works now. If not then there's a problem with your Motherboard.
