Microphone suddenly muffled. Voice as if I am very far away.

Hey guys.

My headset's microphone (Plantronic 780) has been working perfectly since I got the headset at Christmas.

Today it may as well not even be working at all (the microphone that is)
The title summarises the problem but here is a vocaroo recording of me humming the Zelda theme as an example.

As you can see it is extremely difficult to hear me. This has come on very suddenly today and I have no idea what's caused it. No settings have been changed whatsoever. I tried reinstalling the drivers but to no avail.

Have you just taken the simple route and gone into your audio settings to check the mic "level" (aka volume)? Some software occasionally likes to mess with your mic volumes and will move it without telling you.

Yeah I've done the standard troubleshooting stuff to do with audio options and all that but nothing works. It's really weird as it was working fine yesterday but then as you can hear now it's still picking up my voice but its as if its miles away and its replacing it with static.

Have you tried either moving to a different mic port or just even re-seating the plug in the port? Possibly a loose cord?
