I've been constantly searching for at least another person who has the same problem that I am currently having, let alone a fix.

My mic 3 days ago worked perfectly (TurtleBeach x12) Then yesterday whilst playing CSGO my friend who I was in team speak with let me know that my mic wasn't working in game and no one else could hear me, but I could speak just fine in team speak. I let it slide thought a game restart would fix the problem, and it didn't.

I left it for the day and thought next time I load my PC it would fix it. Totally not remembering the problem I go on my PC the next day to play BO3 Zombies with my other friend (We talk over steam chat not team speak) and he let me know he couldn't hear me and my volume bar through steam didn't move when I spoke, yet in playback devices/recording devices the bar did move as in Windows was hearing me but wasn't relaying the sound through steam. I check my sound options and my mic volume was full I was using the correct mic on steam but the bar wouldn't move.

We change to Skype to talk and he can hear me, but him and me both get a really high pitch interference sound that it's unbearable. And the next second we are both muffled. I tell him to download team speak and all the problems are gone, the sound it crystal clear no interference.

I checked my drivers all upto date, the only thing I can remember doing to my PC was installing the GeForce experience beta the same day I figured my mic didn't work in CSGO. I don't know if/how this could relate. But the same day I noticed massive frame drops from 300 to 40ish on CSGO after I downloaded the beta also.

Check the control panel to make sure the MIC listed is the one your using. Some of your programs are set to use the Default MIC and others are set to use a specific MIC. I had a problem with something like this a long time ago when my monitor had a built in MIC but I used my headset MIC, and I had to double check each program's settings to be sure it had the correct MIC listed. Also if your hearing screeching while talking in certain programs that might mean the output is set a little bit too high for the MIC settings in that program.

Hi, thanks for the speedy reply. I've been through control panel and disabled every other recording device even though no other ones are connected, I've checked the steam chat voice settings and its using the same mic it's always used

And the screeching sound only came along after this problem, I've used Skype before with the same mic and the audio was perfect on both ends

I have two other suggestions. Go back into sound settings and hit the Recording tab at the top, highlight the MIC that is default device and make sure that's the one that your seeing green bars from. Then hit properties and in the middle of general it will sometimes show the Jack Information. Something like the pink jack and 3.5mm jack. Now hit the Levels Tab at the top and make sure its set to 100 and that the Mute button isn't hit. Just leave the MIC boost at zero. Next hit the Advanced Tab at the top and try unchecking the box for "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device". Hit Apply and then OK out of the MIC settings and unplug your MIC from your computer then replug it back in.
If that still doesn't work then last thing I can think of is go into a program its not working at and check settings for MIC. It will either have "Use Default Device" or the name of the MIC specifically. Whatever it has listed. Change it to the other and then OK out and totally reload the game and test it.
