MicroSD card folders as files

I recorded footage last week with my gopro and tried to get the videos off the microsSD card last night. I found that the space was filled but there were no videos in the DCIM folder. I tried scanning and fixing the card. I then accessed the card again and found that the folders had turned into files with no extensions. The videos are very important to me. Does anyone know how I can retrieve them from the card please?

Have you any idea how large your video files should be? Usually video files are fairly large unless very short, so look on the drive for large files, if you find any they are hopefully your missing video. If the extensions have been removed just rename the files adding in the appropriate extension for the video type (if not sure record some video on a different card and check it). How much free space is on the card? If it's mostly empty then the "fixing" may have erased the files, if they were just deleted it might be possible to recover them using a recovery tool (you could also contact the maker of the card they may have a recovery service). It's also possible the files got marked as hidden, if using windows to look at the card you can set Windows Explorer to show hidden files go into Tools/Folder Options and click view and click on the check box to show hidden files (in Win7-- I forget what it is in Win8 shouldn't be hard to find though).

well 7GB is certainly big enough to be holding your video since that would be a couple hours of SD video. Did you try looking to see if the folders/files might have been hidden? What are the sizes of the "files" that are on there now? What I'm getting at is that one of them might be your video just renamed now.

The files are only about 10 KB so I dought they are the videos. I haven't tried hidden folders yet I will when I get home later. I keep thinking that if that much space has been used surely my videos must be there somewhere shouldn't they?

My guess is the "repair" has put them somewhere, otherwise the card would probably be showing almost no used space. They may have been renamed and they may or may not be usable but 7GB is certainly a number I'd expect to see related to video files especially if you were shooting in HD. Yes the renamed folders coming at 10KB is exactly what I'd expect. If the files weren't somehow marked invisible than you may need to have a file recovery service find them...check with manufacturer in this case they may have specific recommendations...the files may be there but the pointers to them lost as it sounds like the directory structure got munched.

I used sandisk's rescue pro deluxe it fount files. 4 blank videos, 2 .mbw files and 11 .jpg files. The strange thing is that the videos have the length and size but no footage and 10 of the .jpg files are the thumbnails of my videos.
