Question Microsoft Accounts ?

Hi. I had to re-install Windows 11. This time without having an account. I then re-installed Office 2021 from the MS website. When opening an xlsx file, it asks me to Sign in to activate the account. Does this mean I have to have an MS account now on my PC and log in with it?

I originally had an MS account years ago with a different email account and wanted to change the email address. I think I might have several accounts with different email addresses.

I don’t want to use a MS account on the PC itself to log into windows.

What I want to know, is it safe to go ahead and click continue to activate. This is a downloadable version of office not a 365 subscription. Is this seperate to a windows login account.

I think you can chose when logging in to Office 2021, to use the account only for that Microsoft service. Unless things have changed over the last 1 year, that's how I used to do it.
