I backtrack on Microsoft.

Firefox+Chrome+no flash+ghostery.

I use Firefox for everything. If the crapware don't work, I use Chrome as backup.

Still running on Windows 7, and no plans to updowngrade to Win10.

So The NX isn't coming out 2015, they said there would be more information about the console next year, 2016. So probably not even the new console 2016, but 2017, which would mean 5 years, which isn't that bad. So 4 years after the PS4 and Xbone were launched, and the PS4 and Xbone were outdated at launch. I think it needs to be a solid upgrade to the PS4 and xbone. The PS4 and Xbone probably are going to last to 2018-2020? I don't see them lasting past 2020.

The desktop market is shrinking. In the future, it seems like it will be only needed for gaming or professional use. The new Macbook has a tablet cpu, because efficiency is more important than raw performance with mobile devices and ARM is the king of efficiency and AMD is releasing an ARM desktop cpu in 2016.

I don't see the appeal of x86 for a console released in 2017, unless intel pays them a shit ton. Why would they adopt a dieing architecture that is less efficient if there is comparably powerful gaming cpu's using the same architecture used in almost every mobile device?

On what basis is win10 a downgrade? Bloody luddites. In a decade you'll be the same plague the XP users are now.

One can argue 8 was worse than seven, but as far as previews are shaping up, w10 is set to be significant improvements on all fronts.

Doesn't even slightly matter at all. The "Do Not Track" feature simply doesn't work. It's just a flag that requests the server not track you. NO ONE WHO ACTUALLY WRITES TRACKING CODE SUPPORTS IT SO IT DOES NOTHING.

So, you don't want more performance for no cost? Since Windows 10 has been deemed to be EVEN LIGHTER ON SYSTEM RESOURCES than Windows 7 and 8?

What are you talking about, how is windows 10 a downgrade?

The problem with relying on things like Ad Block is that more and more websites are broken by them when they are activated. Tom's own website doesn't work (you can't click their 'scrolling images' within articles) unless you deactivate Ad Block. Some websites force you to deactivate it completely before you can run their service and it won't be long before YouTube goes this way... So we are soon to end up in a race between websites blocking Ad Block while Ad Block itself needs to keep up with blocking ads while not breaking websites.

He will be outcast by the rest of the flock if he does not conform to the blind rejection of anything beyond Win 7.

Well, I don't like YouTube enough to deal with its crappy ads. You have to understand where there's a will there's a way - DNS blocking, or simply getting updated lists or updated code.

I've had adblocker-intolerant sites break and then work again with adblocker several times now. I don't view ads, and I don't like them. I'm not going to waste my time with sites where I can't block them - and I contribute through other things such as content that helps drive people to these sites.

True enough - condemning non-win7 OS' is just popular work for idiots. Condemn XP, it's legitimately worse on virtually all fronts. I know, as I've had the misfortune of having to do tech work on both and Win7 is a breeze comparatively.

Didn't like Win8 so much, but at least I tried it and I do run it full time on my Surface. Win10 TP is good, and I suspect I will be quite happy to switch to the polished product - I just wish they'd get it out a bit sooner.

Yea, I don't like when people do that. It was especially popular with windows 8 because of the start button. I understood that and was with them, but then things like classicshell and start is back brought back the start button and windows 8 had the same ui as windows 7 with improved boot times, task manager, and a few others. After that I never looked back at windows 7.

The only reason i've ever found that made any sense was that someone liked how windows 7 looked better (the aero design vs flat windows 8)
