Microsoft Backtracks Plan to Reject Apps with Metro in Title

And you would think that MS will focus their energy and efforts towards making Win 8 a better OS, ergo, more productive things... Nope, instead they will use their manpower to chase down and squish any thing with the "Metro" name on it... Oh brother

Its better to avoid using "Metro" well before Windows 8 is released, so people won't "MIS"-associate it with Metro AG- no matter how different the two are. (ex. in Motorola Xoom's case)

& @ Hellstalker,. except for the UI,. MS actually did an excellent job in making Windows 8 better than its predecessor, if I remember correctly,. there's a universal increase in energy/memory/processor-managements that leads to efficiency (necessary for tablets with finite energy supply).

As an example, my Asus G51VX-RX05 (entry level gaming lappy, Core2Duo, 260M) gets 1-1:15 battery on Windows 7 while browsing. On windows 8, I get 2-2:15 battery. So, I'm sold. :)

Looks like there would be no Metro 2033 on Windows 8...yet one more reason to totally ignore this fail of an OS. I'll still stay with my GODLIKE Windows 7 Ultimate х64 bit, thank you very much.

Bullshizzle. You're obviously a paid Microbot PR drone.

No problem for me

I don't even knew about the micro$oft apps store.. only torrentz get apps xD

Seriously.. I use linux and sometimes windows XP for some gaming.. i can't make use nor even play in DX11 with a geforce 8600... in the future, maybe i consider to move toward windows 7 (purportedly stable), when I plug something and it doesn't work (i.e. new hardware)

I tried win XP and XP 64, seven 32 and 64 and I found (beside the fact more than 3 GB of RAM with 64 bit) a minor improvement between windows version. It wasn't the case for Linux, it really makes the difference..

windows 8 is a waste of money (for those who really pay for software), it was designed for tablets and not for PC, and from my point of view, a waste of HDD space.. I encourage all of you to perform some benchmarks on your own computers with various windows and then came up with some conclusions. leaving aside the esthetic of windows.. who knows.. maybe win 8 really performs better than the former and so on..

so, my conclusion is: windows xp and seven perform the same in my quad core @ 2.4Ghz , 4gb RAM and an old geforce 8600 GT, then using XP i'm saving HDD for porn or whatever..

You're aware that the Windows 8 store is only for Metro apps, correct? You're aware that you'll be able to install and run every single piece of software that currently runs in Windows 7 in Windows 8, yeah?

Or are you just like 90% of the people who visit this site and spout off ignorantly about things they don't understand just because someone else told them it was "bad"?

[citation][nom]super d spamalot[/nom]You're aware that the Windows 8 store is blablabla[/citation]
Why so butthurt? No, really. Why?
I've just stated my opinion on 8 and that it gets worse and worse with each day (basically because of thing like these), but you, for no apparent reason, decided to spew this nonsensical rage on me? I truly chuckle.

If you're a mindless Windows 8 fanboy that rages every time when someone says something negative about your favorite OS, then don't even bother me, because I usually eat people like you every morning, for breakfast. If you can't control your obvious butthurt and could not ignore other people's opinions, then you should really go visit a quality psychiatrist - you have some nasty rage issues, bro.

Or, maybe it has something to do with the fact that "Metro" has had a lot of negativity surrounding it, and Microsoft wants to try and put a barrier between Windows 8 and all the forum talk, so that when it's released, if anyone unfamiliar with Metro googles it, all the bad reviews won't pop up. That probably wouldn't be to good for business. What they should do is just fix Windows 8, put the start menu back, and let it be able to default to standard desktop mode in startup, instead of alienating there loyal customers with Apple clone crap.. If I want apple, i'd buy it.

Not sure if trolling... or just dumb.

and you're aware that most peopel have thier own opinons arn't you ??? not sure about the other guy , but it didn't take a bunch of peopel ahting windows 8 for me to look at screen shots and realize it's a f--k ugly UI on it. and being f--k ugly is bad enough for me , looks uglier than the current xbox 360 dash board , which i hate with a passion. and olotta folks say athestics don';t matter but you know what THEY DO. if asthetics didn't matter , then why does any one in any industry hire artist to design stuff ? seem's like artist would be pointless if looks didn't matter. but back to the point artistically and asthetically windows 8 looks f--k ugly. and I have no intention of using it, and I didn't need any one else to tell me that my eyes hurt looking at it as an artist, as an art critic, and as a game art design student. the fact that you assume every one hates something just cos every one else hates that same something is just ludicrous.

[citation][nom]invisibilian[/nom]what about metro 2033?[/citation]

Thats a different category. Trademarks and copyrights are only valid for particluar industries in whiche they were trademarked or copyrighted.

Since Metro 2033 is a game related to the metro subway system it doesn't interfere or relate to what the German Metro AG does.

I installed yesterday windows 8 (the final leaked retail version) and i was so disappointed and i'm not talking about the start button. I actually like the new stuff, but they stripped off a lot of other things that i can't ignore.
Sorry to say it, but i won't even pirate it and i just got back to windows 7.
The moment you play a bit with windows 8, you realize how perfect is windows 7.....

There is a HP/Windows 7 AD running on TV currently. It says:
WINDOWS 7
Works The Way You Want
But this phrase is actually Microsofts since Win7 was released.
Seems like they forgot their whole message. Now its:

Windows R8PE
Take it, suck it, you'll like it later

MS will burn this Christmas... their OEM partners are going to give MS the bird. Only thing that may save their ass is selling Windows7 until Win8-SP1 comes out around February. (Officially, SP1 preview is due for Jan... WTF?! Hmmmm)

The changes required to make Windows R8PE into Windows 8.1 Usable.

- Make user options for the items below. When on a tablet, the default will be more like WinR8PE today... but better.

- Start button & Aero Peek buttons replaced (hidden buttons are stupid)
- Windows 7 style menu (Or Start Screen Metro)
- Removal of METRO, period
- Optional Metro for the Start Menu (hybrid setup)
- Metro apps RUN on TOP of the desktop. Not over-it. ie: like a normal window.
- Aero replaced back to version 8440 style skin. Not this metro-flat-crap. its UGLY.
- update the Drive Properties look, stop using Win95 purple/blue pie-chart.
- Reinstate any keyboard short-cuts (win95 > Win7)... any WinR8PE keyboard shortcuts should NOT replace old ones.

Looking at rough google results. It seems Windows 8 may have 20x the people who like it vs. not. Unless the GOOD reviews/blogs are inflated.

The artist of the Windows 8 Logo is Paula Scher. Who actually rated the 2012 London Olympics logo as badly done. Go figure. Either she is crazy or its what MS gave for her to work with.
"make like our window logo, but metro like" er... okay and she finished it in 5 minutes, waited 2-3 weeks and billed them for $500,000. Hell, I would.

What is also funny is that the Win R8PE logo was made on a Macintosh.
