Microsoft Basic Display Adapter? But I have a GPU...

Just installed a windows 8 on a new PC I built. I went to my device manager to check If the GPU is working, but it just says "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter". Windows won't recognize my card? How do I get it to recognize it correctly? Do I need to download the drivers for it? I have a HD 6970

Your GPU should have came with a cd that included the drivers on it.
Try and run dxdiag and than click yes, if your gpu is working it should tell you
