I have ESET NOD32 installed on my system, but I still get pushed to download and install updates via Windows Update for Microsoft Defender. If I understand correctly, Defender is the default anti virus that's installed on all the computers. Is it necessary for me to update definitions for Defender when I have my own AV? If not, then do I need to keep Defender on my system? Does it serve any other purpose? Should I uninstall it?

Thanks!

I don't know if it can be uninstalled, as it is a part of Windows. Running more than 1 Anti-virus on a machine can sometimes cause conflicts, and usually when installing an anti-virus program, it usually disables Windows Defender automatically. If you want, you can disable it through the Administrative Tools\Services window.

Gotcha, I'll do it that way. I won't have to worry about Windows updates then as well.
