Yeah, I saw the announcement yesterday. But as you I don't play Sim games, but this one really looks beautiful. Might give it a go, if I have necessary hardware capable of running this huge "graphic and CPU demanding" game. :p Never played the previous one though.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 actually looks incredible. This is exactly what a current-gen game should look like.

According to the team, this brand-new simulator is designed to take advantage of the latest technologies in simulation, cloud, machine learning, graphics and gaming to create the most sophisticated, immersive and awe-inspiring flight simulator of all time. The game will be also using the latest iteration of Asobo’s in-house engine.

2020 also looks incredible. Very photo realistic graphics... at least on my system in 4K. A lot of people are salty about the announcement because Microsoft said something about supporting 2020 for 10 years. Doesn't appear that will be happening.

So anyway... is it a sim or is it a game? Because it looks like with the 2024 announcement that Microsoft is caving in to the gaming crowd.

On PC... I consider it a sim. I have the Honeycomb yoke/throttle and rudder pedals and VR for total immersion. How can you consider it a sim on the XBox? Do pilots fly with a controller?

This seems more like an update to 2020 but I'll welcome it with open arms. Outside of the hardware costs I don't have much invested in 2020... I haven't bought any software upgrades and most likely won't. I feel bad for the YouTubers and other sim enthusiasts that dumped a bunch of money in 2020 addons based on Microsoft's word and now this is announced. That's mostly what the complaints have been about.

I don't much care... my investment will roll over to the 2024 version. Will follow up in this thread as needed.

Don't know for sure, but I think it is a simulation game. According to the official description:

"Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is a standalone simulator and the next-generation sequel to Microsoft Flight Simulator that launched in 2020. Current aircraft and airports that are in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020), as well as virtually all Marketplace add-ons, will be supported in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024."

So it is an expansion to 2020. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

My original opinion hasn't changed... it's a simulator on the PC with the appropriate flight control hardware... ain't nobody simming on an Xbox with a controller. That ladies and gentlemen is a video game.

Makes you really wonder what they could've done if the Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator series (based on FS98 and FS2000) hadn't been discontinued after 2002. Now that was fun.

You can get warbirds with add-ons for FS2020 but it's just not the same when you can't fire weapons to shoot down other planes. And the Russians haven't updated IL-2 Sturmovik in 10 years, making their latest as old as War Thunder or World of Warplanes.

If I ever come across a playable FS game, I'll definitively get my self some form of joystick and rudders for my pc to really play the game and enjoy the smooth HD playing experience, but as it stands now not even the 2020 version was playable on my current rig, thus I've just resorted to play the flying in GTA V.

It's plenty playable with the right hardware... the running meme on a lot of FS pages is people posting real life photos next to game photos and having people choose which one is real.

It looks that good.

MSFS is one of those titles that pushes the CPU... and that 10600k would probably be OK. I started in early 2021 on a 10900k... but I had 24GB VRAM in a 3090.

Not sure how playable that 8GB card would be... but probably not very. 8GB cards are the new 4GB cards... and it's only going to get worse in 2023 and beyond.

I did get a chuckle though about you playing the flying in GTA V... as if it's the same as MSFS. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Yeah, my 10600K is very strong, hardly see more than 20% utilization in most games, but my RX vega 64 is not meant for a game such as MSFS 2020, when I tried it on the game everything was a blocky mess, extreme low fps and rather unplayable, ( and taking into account that I know how to setup games's setting to make the most of the hardware) then if you have to wait that long for the game to load up every time it really does turn into a non pleasurable experience.

Your right it should make you chuckle because, a simulator is not similar to flying in GTA, but flying in GTA V is allot of fun and the various aircraft are easily controllable even with simple input such as keyboard and mouse.

Then my point would be that I'd wish more stand alone flying games are made in the image of what GTA V brings to the table with it's flying component, don't get me wrong I'd love to play a real well made flight simulator, but I have yet to see one that does so on any hardware.

On the other hand I'm glad that some people are already enjoying such flying save they have the right hardware and controllers.
