Microsoft might be gathering momentum towards eventual in-house silicon development. A Surface-specific job opening for the position of Director of SoC Development and other hiring positions hints at either Apple-like aspirations or a renewed push in company relations with custom silicon providers such as AMD and Qualcomm.

I bet this is more for cloud servers like Amazon and Google have done. Something like a SOC to handle more SSD or NVMe drives.

Many personal users are beginning to resent Microsoft's aggressive push on obsolescence and privacy invasion. One of the reasons so many people hate Apple is the abusive eco system which keeps them trapped into egregious terms and pricing.

If Microsoft does this, the adoption rate to Linux like Mint, Kali, or Arch with steam emulators will increase.

Microsoft better tread carefully if this is for the consumer space.
