About time someone came up with this. I just can't bring myself to use hotmail, though, not after it was so crappy for so many years.

I remember when Yahoo let you add a second address to your account; it was maybe 5 years ago. Still, it wasn't a temporary address thing, more a realization on Yahoo!'s part that people didn't want to be stuck using "hotlips11345553" as their email address forever. It would definitely be cool if Yahoo rolled-this feature out, but considering there's no IMAP access and POP3 requires a $15/year upgrade, I doubt they're going to jump right on this.

wouldn't it be easier just to come up with better spam or junk filters so we don't get the emails in the first place?

[citation][nom]Be0wulf22[/nom]The point of having a 'spam' email account is so the spam DOESN'T come into our primary email![/citation]

“Email aliases let you create completely different email addresses that you can use to receive email into your primary account without anyone knowing what your primary email address is.”

If I filled out a web form that required an email address, and I had no intention to ever look at emails from the site, I've always grabbed some random hotmail address and entered that instead. :D

About time someone did this? I've had this on my yahoo account for about 6 or 7 years. Its called Address Guard. I can set up as many as I want, and I can set incoming mail from these addresses to be sent to separate inbox folders and each email has its own color flag on the messages. I haven't given out my original email address to hardly anyone for years. For all the things that Yahoo screwed up,their web mail is the best in my opinion. I've tried others but I've stuck with yahoo.

E-mail aliasing has been around for over a decade, if not since e-mail was invented. Verizon has offered the service since dial-up days. The problem with using an alias is that the messages still go into your primary account mailbox. You can setup a filter in your client to move messages to various folders based on address, but that is still undesirable for a lot of people.

Also, if you reply to any message sent to an alias, your primary e-mail account will be exposed. Aliases are not real accounts, and therefore cannot authenticate for outgoing mail.

All in all it is better to just create a junk account on a different network that you can just forget about (besides checking it once a month to prevent deactivation.)

what i want is this.

i have a primary email address, i want a secondary, and i want the email addresses to be theathered, such as, i have one email for work, one for friends, one for family. they all go to the same email box.
my work would be, mynamesomeway@email.com
my friends would be, imtosexytoleavethehouse@email.com
and my family would be, somethingunoffensive@email.com

and when i click reply to any of them, it gets sent as the email address they came from. taking out the hassle of dealing with logging into each one separately to respond.

Now you can have up to 5 email accounts with out using your own main email account...First for buying pc hardware parts, software or any thing else online...Second for getting junk email...Third for people that you have not known for any considerable length of time...Forth for competitions that you enter...Fifth for those that want to keep anonymous and have throw away email accounts to have as a porn account to pay for porn online or for postal delivered pornography...Although people will not admit to it,I am sure that there will be a higher percentage that will try it and see how it goes...
