Microsoft Maximum Transer rate

Hello, I am using an Intel D865glc motherboard and it specifies that it uses
the built-in MS/Windows drivers for the onboard disk controllers for both its
SATA and PATA controllers. When looking up information about the driver it
lists ATAPI.SYS. I am using Windows XP PRO SP2.

I would like to confirm what the maximum transfer rate is for that driver.
Is is UDMA 5 or 6 (ATA100, ATA133 or even SATA150)? I have seen an article
that stated that the MS driver ATAPI.SYS was limited and may *not* support
higher rates such as UDMA mode 6 or SATA150... Can i get a confirmation on
this.

Why are you not using the Intel Application Accelerator? It replaces the
drivers with ones that supports the fastest transfer rates the drive is
capable of. Been around for a few years. Was included with your
motherboard drivers.

If you look at the information for the D865GLC motherboard, the chipset does
not support the application accelerator. I have a chipset that was designed
to use the MS driver. Even though it lists the 865 chipset as application
accel supported, the controller chipset does not. Thanks.

Hi,
Standard XP atapi drivers support at least Ultra133 (UltraDMA 6) on ATA.
I get 109 vs 133 theorical rate on this here pc.
Used a Sata machine w. same OS and it was a wee-bit faster but don't remember
the actual figures.

That is not correct. You may be getting the 109 speed reading, but XP support
tells me that DMA 5 is the maximum (ATA 100). Also an article quoted a
development engineer saying that that would be the supported speed (ATA100).

You may be using a different driver than the native MS driver.

Right.
nForce2 based MB (presently: Asus A7N8X deLuxe) w. latest drivers from nVidia
include Ultra6 ATA133) support.
Since I always put in the pack at set-up (compulsive maniac that I'm!), I pulled
a "Boo-Boo" there.
