If it is free, it's illegal. Tom's Hardware does not support software piracy.

If you need a free office program, I would suggest either LibreOffice or OpenOffice.

Both are 100% legitimate and both are about 99% compatible with Microsoft Office.

Kingsoft Office is pretty legit too. It has an interface closer to Office 2013, but I believe it's ad supported.

If you attend an educational institution of some sort or know somebody who does, OP, try looking into Microsoft Office 365 for education. It's often available as a free offer through your university or direct from Microsoft if you can prove student status (usually an email verification through you@educationalinstitution.edu or similar)

If you can't afford to purchase Microsoft Office, You can use Office Online. It's apparently free and web based. You will need a Microsoft account to use it though. Oh, don't expect them to be feature rich, especially don't count on the latest features either. (if they're there, BONUS!)

Also, as mentioned, if you need a free alternative on your computer, they exist and are probably as compatible as you need (files in particular):

* WPS Office
* LibreOffice
* OpenOffice
* (Apple OS-X only) Apple iWork
* Calligra Office
