Hi

I was using my sidewinder wheel (gameport) with windows xp no problems. Then I decided to reformat my drive and reinstall windows xp. Now when I try to add my wheel using game controlers settings> add> sidewinder (auto detect) it comes up with unknown device on hercules gameport and asks for a driver. The problem is that there is no driver to download as support is baked into windows xp.

The only difference between my previous windows xp and new one is that the first one started out as windows xp sp1 then got upgraded to latest version over the years (after wheel was working) but the new one is a fresh install of windows xp sp3 with all updates included.

The only reason I can think of is that support might have been removed in an update so it can no longer find the built in driver.

There is nothing wrong with my sound card or gameport driver and in device manager properties for the unknown device it shows sidewinder in the device id box.

I know my wheel works so the only thing I can think of it to try and find the name of the built in windows xp file that provides support for sidewinder and download it somewhere.

Any help would be much welcome as I know there must be a solution somewhere.

Thanks
