microsoft silverlight problem downloading updates

I recently was informed to update my microsoft silverlight (KB2636927) and was given the error 64C. What I decided to do was uninstall Silverlight from the control panel and it would not allow me to do so because I was missing the file, "silverlight.msi". I then proceeded to uninstall the program via I have called Windows Install Clean Up which was able to remove my current version of Silverlight however there is another program on the list labeled Microsoft silverlight. I tried uninstalling that as well and when Windows Install Clean Up tries to remove the program, a dos screen window pops up but the program is not removed. I am able to locate Microsoft Silverlight still in my :C/program files and it is clearly not removed. I look control panel uninstall programs and Microsoft Silverlight is not listed anymore.


Can anybody give me some advice to remove this completely and install a fresh version? I need this stupid Silverlight for ATI website for school to do nursing modules. Thank you!

I would manually delete the files and then go into the registry and delete occurences of Silverlight. That should take care of it.

Microsoft Crashes Millions of PCs Worldwide on St. Patrick's Day!

Millions of Windows PC users returned to work today only to find that their PCs has been damaged by a faulty Microsoft patch that infected their internet access to automatic updates. The Windows software update process used by Microsoft is supposed to be automatic and transparant to PC users, but many Windows users saw a Microsoft Error Code (0x8024800A) when they returned to their PCs on Monday morning.

Microsoft's faulty update scheme causes their software updates to crash before any updates are made. "This renders Microsoft Windows unusable for our business," explained the head of a government IT department at a DC-based luncheon roundtable today. "What is remarkable is that Microsoft has not offered an immediate fix to its millions of users, but has suggested some arcane scripts be entered after modifying the Windows registry and a few other inner-workings on our PCs...and this would be disasterous," said the IT manager.

A search of "windows update error 0x8024800A" provided Microsoft websites with suggested remedies, but none of Microsoft's remedies worked, according to the CIO of a large IT company in Washington. "This also happened last month," said the CIO, "when my boss told me to put in an order to change everyone's PCs to Apples. We're almost finished with replacements, but have another 100 or so PCs to swap, so those folks are without computers," explained the CIO.

A resounding theme at the IT roundtable was the arrogance of Microsoft when it came to that company's refusal to admit they created a problem, only to respond with ambiguous fixes that seemed to never work, even for IT gurus. "What Microsoft should have done was to push an automatic patch that would fix their problem, or at the least, send its customers an executable file that would fix the problem Microsoft created," said another IT executuve.

The general agreement among IT executives was that replacing Windows-based PCs is now being seriously considered in large organizations with Microsoft applications and operating systems. They cited a recent rash of Microsoft update errors, continuing security vulnerabilities, and inconsistent user interfaces in new releases of the same software applications, such as Microsoft Office. Microsoft's stock was down again at the end of the roundtable discussion.

I am having problems with this Silverlight update as I write. When I do this update, my vista laptop won't start. It just gives me a black screen with the arrow of my mouse. Then I go back to Safemode and do System Restore to 3 weeks back, and now it is working fine. Now the computer is asking me again to do this Silverlight update (it contains 7 updates). I don't think I am going to do that. It is works fine now and don't want to go through the trouble again.
