Discussion Microsoft testing Windows 11 Start Menu ads, again

unless they put them on the desktop, I can mostly ignore them. I don't spend all day looking in start menu.
the "ads" are just to set up onedrive and an MS Account, the 2nd of which doesn't cost any money. For the most part, they are reminders.
Thats hardly selling anything. Onedrive is part of windows.

Onedrive is part of windows.
It is now, yes. Onedrive is a paid addon service that Microsoft is forcing down everyone's throat.

They pretend to by philanthropic by offering you the 'free' tier and then they automatically turn on Onedrive sync/backup, across all your devices, so that the free tier space gets filled up as quickly as possible, while also removing pictures/videos from the original device in the name of saving space (on some devices). Next, they hold your pictures/videos hostage when they say that your free tier is full so you must pay to keep using it.

I have helped several non-tech-savvy friends and clients with the EXACT scenario above. These are users who swear that they never wanted nor signed up for Onedrive. Don't you think there's something wrong with users getting taken advantage of in such a way??

It is also the default storage application for office 365
i think you mean Microsoft 365, they changed its name... I have a subscription to it, so I don't mind Onedrive being installed as I have 1tb of space I could use on it.

I can see the point about the auto linking library folders to Onedrive. It didn't concern me as much as it would others. Some people don't noitce and delete the folder and strange things happen.

it made it easier when it came to installing everything on this PC, I never had to copy anything physically from last PC.
