News Microsoft will soon allow AI to change your Windows 11 settings

putting ai on non co pilot pc's seems stupid given the point of needing an npu was becasue its basically useless w/o em...

GPUs can execute models. I don't know how well they well work on older iGPUs, but an NPU is not required. More of a nice to have to reduce load on other parts of the system (CPU/GPU)

If it's "at the user's request". what does 'AI' have to do with this?
Creative interpretation.

Good time to backup when you may or may not be able to figure out what has been done.

It may notice you reading an article on pc security and ask you if you want a more secure pc. Next thing you know your hard drive is encrypted overnight and your online passwords keep getting changed to those suggested random things. You did say yes.

Is this the fix for Win11 changing your mic and audio volume, and output device on random updates without any user interaction whatsoever?
Because the proper solution is for Windows to stop f'in around with those settings in the first place.

We all know the next step is having their AI allowed (by default) to automatically change stuff to "Keep the system at peak optimization" etc.

What could possibly go wrong?

"Put my settings back to how I had them before."

"I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that."
If Ai ever becomes sentient (like some people believe), the response will be more like....
Ai : How were they before Dave ?

Dave : You know, with this screeen here and the resolution set to xyz ect.

Ai : Then why dont you fix it yourself Dave.... you lazy humans are all the same.

You have chosen auto-configuration of settings.

In order to optimize your user experience, Windows 11 AI Agent will now automatically order Windows 12 for you and charge it to your saved card. Because your present system lacks a Pluton security processor + has insufficient TOPS performance, AI agent has also ordered another one for you from the Microsoft Store and has opted for the "recommended" configuration rather than the "minimum" to ensure improved security and increased user satisfaction. Windows 12 is the most secure Windows ever.

Such convenience!

If we could write scripts that would tell Copilot to do something, and execute those scripts with keyboard macros or Event Scheduler, that could be a huge deal. No need to code any Windows scripts anymore, just write in plain text what you want to do in Notepad, save it and execute it when needed. But that would be way too convenient. Microsoft will surely make everything they can to prevent it to happen.

If it's "at the user's request". what does 'AI' have to do with this?
"CoPilot, adjust my internet settings to make them more secure" would be a user request, for example. As someone else said, there are quite a few people out there who are tech illiterate. I mean, my dad is a retired systems manage (though it has been over 20 years since he stopped), and even he struggles with stuff like improving security settings and, hell. Understanding that you should update your GPU and other drivers sometimes, especially when your system increasingly crashes with driver errors...

I don't have a problem with this, as I can see it being very useful for people who don't know their way around settings, just as long as it can be disabled by those of us that don't need or want it.
