Does anyone know https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7 how long does it take to verify a key? I have been waiting for over 10 minutes now. My friend gave me, he said it's Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate.

Asked my friend. He said he used to have it (his HDD broke and never found the CD with windows)

OK so just to get this straight so we can help.

A friend gave you a Windows Ultimate 64 key, and you are trying to validate it on your laptop which has Ultimate 32?

Yes. (my brother's laptop, but doesn't matter)

Also, that key is more than likely locked to your friend's old pc.

That is what I was thinking in following this thread. You might try calling Microsoft and tell them that Windows was installed on a different computer, but is no longer installed on that computer and you want to use a new computer, but it is kind of up to their discretion. It seems like they are really pushing everyone to "upgrade" to Windows 10, so I don't know how helpful they will be.

That will be an OEM key and is tied to the motherboard of the original laptop, you cannot reuse it as its against the user licence.
