It's just one Word doc it can't open. Error message: Microsoft Word found unreadable content in "name of file..." Do you want to recover the contents of this document? If you trust the source of this document, click Yes. I clicked Yes. New error message: Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these suggestions: *Check the file permissions for the document or drive. *Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space. *Open the file with the Text Recovery converter. (C:\...\name of file...).

It only happens with one Word file on the desktop. All other Word files are fine. I ran SFC in case it might have to do with corruption. I tried changing the file extension to .rtf. It opened as a small amount of code with some words. I set it back to a doc file and got the errors again. There are no permission issues.

How do I prevent it in the future?

I occasionally run into a similar issue when downloading a file, particularly from Dropbox. In this case the file will show up as a white rectangle instead of as a "W". The solution seems to be to perform the paste option again. If it isn't caught in process the file will later on be unusable. Don't know if that is helpful to this situation.

Thanks. I created it on my desktop. I have an earlier version of the file with similar but older data. It seems like everytime I update that file and save it with a new file name, it goes bad later.
