There is a work-around in order to make the Microtek ScanWizard work with
OSX10.3x. Can someone please tell me tell me what it is? I had to go out of town
for several days, so I turned the power completely off to my system and scanner.
I had the scanner working before powering down, but now I cannot get it to work.
Of course, Microtek wants to charge me $30 for advice on fixing something that
they screwed up.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Do a search for the micotek websites in other regions, eg Singapore, for any
additional tech support pages. I've often found stuff on pages other than
micritekusa.

Try the other Microtek sites for OS 10.3 drivers for your scanner.
http://www.microtek.com/

http://www.support.microtek.com/downloads/bymodelname.phtml?srch_in=x12usl&axn=2&slct_tbl=1&slct_mdl=3
Try the OS 10.2 Jaguar link and then the FAQ after you get pass the speed
question.

Thanks to both you and Stewart for your suggestions. I actually found more
information on the Singapore site than on Microtek's US site. Go figure.

There are a couple of things I found out. I spent several days doing searches
and came up with nothing. I finally put in the words "x12usl workaround" and I
got the answer I was looking for. Microtek posted a file on its support site
that explained that the culprit is a SCSI driver that is automatically loaded
when all the other files and drivers are loaded for ScanWizard. The scanner
looks for the SCSI driver first, and when it can't find it, the program stalls.
So, I searched my HD for anything with SCSI in it and quickly located the SCSI
driver. After I deleted it, I restarted my computer and everything worked fine.
Why they don't tell you that up front, I can't imagine! That is really critical
information.

I was about to pay the $50 and switch to VueScan, which is a great product. I
downloaded a demo and it worked perfectly on my scanner. I just didn't want to
pay money for VueScan when Microtek was supposed to supply me with their
software for free.

Also, in this process I started saving my searches on Yahoo! Search. I can't
tell you how much time and effort that saved me when I needed to go back to a
previous search. Google also keeps a history of searches, but with Yahoo! Search
you can title the searches and save them into separate folders which you can
create and name.

Thanks again for your help.
