Can I connect my Novatel 7730L hotspot to a Netgear 7750's usb to use the Netgear's stonger WiFi signal?

Solution
Although not really a optimum configuration is to attempt to use your PC as the hotspot. You have to be careful about running intensive programs on the pc because it may disrupt the devices using it as a hotspot.

If you go to microsoft site you will find a setup guide for ICS. You can also search the many post of how to use a pc as a hotspot. You have 2 options. You can use your router as a AP connected to your pc ethernet or you can use a wifi card in your pc.

The only thing I can't say for sure is if the driver for the tethering has the needed setting to allow it to use ICS. Lately more do but there are still some that do not work with ICS.

The cheapest way to teather if it is on the supported list is to use dd-wrt. I...
My guess is you can not.

Both devices would need options to let you run the hotspot as a tethered modem to use the USB. So first the hotspot would need to support tethering to a pc which it may not support. Then the router would need a special driver for that particular hotspot. The tethering function is very none standard so even routers that support this only support a limited list of device.

Its too bad these small hotspots do not have a ethenet port then you could do what you wanted.

The only other way is to run a range extender/repeater. BUT some of the hotspots do not support WDS that is required to make the repeater device work. You netgear likely does not have this repeater function in the first place.

Thanks, bill001g!
I suspect your are correct... I do know that the 7730L can be usb tethered; I have it connected to my PC that way. I have inquired about how to get a better wireless signal to the rest of my house (stronger than the MiFi 7730L puts out), and was told to get a Pepwave Surf SOHO MK3. Then I could tether the 7730L to that instead of the PC, and the MK3 would send a stronger WiFi signal, plus give me an ethernet port that I can plug a powerline range extender into. I was trying the save the $200 the MK3 costs! And I have an unused Netgear 7550 collecting dust....

I am not sure if dd-wrt works on your netgear, it might but since it has a dsl modem it in you would have to load a image from a similar router and the dsl would not work....not that you need it anyway. Otherwise you can buy a number of inexpensive routers that support dd-wrt. But first is to dig though the list and see if you can tether the mifi to any dd-wrt router.
