Might and Magic VI minor mysteries

I just made a new start in MM6 with a view to staying on Emerald Isle
longer, and trying to dispatch that dragon. I've given that up--even with
Day of the Gods and as well-equipped a party as I can raise at level 4, I'm
just not quick enough to stay clear of the monster's fireballs, and I can
hardly put a scratch on him before at least one of my party is dead.

But the new start reminded me of a couple of other things that I'm curious
about:

1. Near the inn and shops about where you start the game, there's an anvil
on a low platform. Put the cursor on any part of it and it says "button."
But clicking on it doesn't seem to do anything at all. Does anyone know
what, if anything, that anvil "button" is for?

2. When you look at the map of that region, Emerald Isle is in the upper
right-hand quadrant, and everything else is blackness. No other land can be
seen from the shore, but is all that space to the west and south really
empty? is what I'm wondering. There's no Water Walk available (or anything
else to do with water magic for that matter) on the island, so exploration
in those directions is impossible. And as I recall there's no way later in
the game to return to that region either. So probably those other three
quadrants really are just empty--but does anyone know otherwise?

Oops. As Auggie corrected me, that's MM7 I'm talking about, not MM6.

Actually, if the game decided the creature had 2 items, then you could
search it, get one item, then save and reload. When you search the body
again, there would again be a chance the body had two items. This way
you could get as many items as you have the patience for (any time only
one item was on the body, you need to reload and try again)

MM7 determined the dragon's loot when you looted the body, and also decided
whether or not you could loot the body a second time. If you want to spend some
time looking for good items, save before looting the dragon's body. If the body
stays after you exit the looting screen, save and do it again. It is possible
to loot the dragon's body many times, if you have the patience. Of course, if
the body disappears after looting it, just reload and try again. However, there
is a basic problem with this scheme. Every now and then the body would
disappear after I got a particularly nice item that I could not pass up, and I
had to go find another dragon. Such are the travails of adventuring.

I'd do that (save/reload on an item pick) to get a good item for the
party... not to see how many items you could milk 1 kill for.

But... you can also save after you loot the body if its a notable item and
then go back to the previous save and keep trying if you have lots of time
to spare... so if the first time you loot and get a +30 suit of armour for
your wizard you might save it in a second slot and then reload the first
game up... next time you get a ring of fire magic and a +20 armour you might
save that over the +30 suit of armour... and keep going until you are
satisfied with what you got.

That's the spirit! Happy adventuring.
