I was curious. I recently went though a little debacle. I was installing my new memory, and I turned off power but I didnt unplug my PC, I also don't think i turned off the power switch in the back. What is the worst that can happen in that case? Could I have shorted something out? If something did break in the memory slots because of not unplugging the power cable, etc, what is the worst that can happen? Everything is fine on my PC but sometimes (it happened twice now) I notice that my Windows Logo in the bottom left hand corner of the screen is frozen. Also, when I swipe across the right side of the screen the Search menu doesnt come up. I am forced to ctrl alt del and sign out. Once I do that everything is fine. Is this something minor that can be atoned to this memory installation I did?

I also should mention that while installing memory I had an issue that I wouldnt get any display, i reset pc numerous times with diff memory sticks, one stick, reset CMOS, etc all the typical ways to diagnose a pc problem. I got it fixed but like I said Im just sitting here worried about not draining all the power from PC before removing old memory and putting in the new sticks. Sorry for how long this is please help if you have knowledge in this subject. Thanks!

Solution
Not turning off the switch "could" have if it sparked. If the system turns on and works you should be fine. Not unplugging the power cable is fine, that is where the computer ground comes from.
Normally the only thing you have to do is make sure you touch the case before touching the computer motherboard. The ground for the computer goes through the Power supply. Normally you want it turned off but the power cord connected or you lose the ground. You should be fine as long as you touched the case before messing inside.
