Hello,

I don't know if it exists but here we go:

As the title says, I recently bought a better laptop SSD, but I can't mount it without unplugging the old one, because the motherboard has only one SSD slot and one HDD slot. The problem is that on the old SSD I have the bootable C partition.

I thought of using Macrium Reflect to copy from SSD to HDD, mount the purchased SSD and copy back. It's a a lot of work, but that's not the problem. When I try to put what I have on the SSD on the HDD, it doesn't allow me without deleting a partition, even if there is enough space on the hard drive.

How can I solve the problem or what can I do to not get so complicated?

I want a migration and not a reinstallation of Windows, because I have some sensitive programs and it is not possible to backup them only.

This can be done with an Image, not a direct clone.

What size/make/model is the original SSD?
How much space is consumed on it?
How much FREE space do you have on the HDD?
What size/make/model is the new SSD?

What size/make/model is the original SSD?
The original SSD is SK hynix SC311 128GB NMVe( it came with the laptop)

How much space is consumed on it?
Currently it consumes around 100GB

How much FREE space do you have on the HDD?
On the HDD I have 500 GB free

What size/make/model is the new SSD?
The new SSD is Kingston A2000 500GB NMVe

OK then.,...this can be done. Image, not a clone.

1x m.2 slot with an Image

Assuming you have another drive with sufficient free space to hold the entirety of your current m.2 drive:

  1. Download and install Macrium Reflect
  2. Run that, and create a Rescue CD or USB (you'll use this later). "Other Tasks"
  3. In the Macrium client, create an Image to some other drive. External USB HDD, maybe. Select all partitions. This results in a file of xxxx.mrimage, of the approx size of the current consumed space on your existing drive.
  4. When done, power OFF.
  5. Swap the 2 drives
  6. Boot up from the Rescue USB you created earlier.
  7. Recover, and tell it where the Image is that you created in step 3, and which drive to apply it to...the new m.2
  8. Go, and wait until it finishes.
  9. That's all...this should work.
