Hello, I am going to be building a computer and going to install Ubuntu on it. I am going to be using Ubuntu until I can afford windows 10. I am going to be using steam to play games and I was wondering if the Ubuntu OS saves are compatible with Windows OS or if there was some sort of steam backup option which allowed me to use saves from Ubuntu on Windows.

Thanks,
Michael

If you use steams cloud save feature some games support syncing savegame data between platforms. You need to check this on game to game basis. Otherwise you need to find where the game saves data on linux and windows and move the data over manually. You can find a lot of this information from pcgamingwiki, click on games->linux for example to get a list of linux games.

Ok thanks, I have a question slightly off topic. I was doing a little research today and I found out I can download windows 10 and not need to activate it to use it. Are the only drawbacks to this a watermark on the wallpaper and not being allowed to personalise the windows desktop?

You also can't use any MS services on it, no idea about other limitations. I'd recommend obtaining a legal license key for your software though.

Ok thanks, I was just going to use that until I could afford the retail windows price but I think it stops letting you use it after 30 days. So I will just use Ubuntu then until I can afford Windows.
